The company signed a deal for 33,000 square feet earlier this year. It plans to use this space to “build a development lab to serve our local and global biotech and biopharma partners,” said Ruyi Shi, a WuXi Biologics spokeswoman.
The biotech firm started out ten years ago as a division of WuXi AppTec, a China-based company that provides pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies with research and development and manufacturing services.
WuXi AppTec already has a significant presence in the Philadelphia region at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. It is one of the largest tenants at the South Philadelphia campus with over 380,000 square feet of space leased and more than 600 people working there.
WuXi Biologics has spun off from WuXi AppTec five years ago and went public in 2017 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
