Montgomery County has opened a new COVID-19 testing site at MCCC in Whitpain Township where each person does their own nasal swabbing.

Montgomery County has opened a new COVID-19 self-testing site in Whitpain Township, writes Katherine Scott for 6abc.

The new drive-thru site is located at Montgomery County Community College and differs from previously established sites because each person does their own nasal swabbing. Tests are available only by appointment.

Due to the limited number of available tests, they are reserved for high-risk individuals. These include healthcare workers, first responders, and people of any age with symptoms of a sudden illness.

The site will be open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration will open at 8 a.m. each morning and will remain open until all spots are filled for that day. Registration is also available by phone at (610) 631-3000.

The site is allocated 250 tests daily and county officials said they want ensure to use every one of them. The county has also provided an instructional video on how to use the self-swab on its website.

“If someone doesn’t have good internet access, not a problem,” said Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners. “We will have instruction sheets as well as the video at the testing site.”
