Blue Bell-Based Shemtob Draganosky Taylor Offers Advice on What to Do in Custody Disputes amid COVID-19 Crisis

By

As the coronavirus threat grows in Montgomery County, separated or divorced parents can find themselves in situations where they cannot agree on what is safe for their children, writes Andrew D. Taylor, Esquire, for Shemtob Draganosky Taylor.

For example, a father might want to take the children to another state for spring break but the mother would not want to have the children walk through an airport or fly on a plane.

If parents are unable to reach a consensus, an emergency petition for special relief may be warranted. In this case, a judge would make the decision, based on his or her opinion of the threat of the children being exposed to COVID-19.

This same remedy can be used when parents cannot agree on whether their children should take part in extra-curricular activities or public events.

However in the end, with so many unknowns about COVID-19, a divorced or separated parent worried about the other parent taking actions that could increase the possibility of exposing their children to the virus should consider seeking legal counsel to find out all of their options.
