A recent kitchen redesign that has warmed up the conversation around the table is now itself the center of conversation thanks to a Philly.com feature by Diane M. Fiske.

Former Congresswoman and Better Medicare Alliance President and CEO Allyson Schwartz broached the topic of the Rydal home improvement with a single overarching goal: “I like to have people to talk to when I cook and make food,” she said in the article.

With the support of her husband David, a cardiologist, Schwartz brought architect Anthony Miksitz into her 4,000-square-foot home and its skylit kitchen brimming with potential.

The kitchen project sacrificed an awkward island desk to install a new green quartzite island, a table and chairs for Schwartz’s granddaughter and a nook plush with a sofa, table and TV.

“What I wanted was a clean, modern house that shows warmth to our family and friends,” Schwartz said. “Now, the house is great for us; … it is a house where someone could be alone or with other people and still feel comfortable.”

Read much more about why the former state senator and U.S. representative moved to Rydal and how she cooked up the kitchen makeover on Philly.com here.
