Any holders of gift certificates from Tango restaurant, which abruptly closed over Christmas, are getting a helping hand from restaurateur John Brandt-Lee, who owns Avalon Bistro in Bryn Mawr, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Brandt-Lee, who has no ties to Tango or its owners, has offered to deduct $25 from any Avalon guest check for a Tango card of any value through March 1. Guests can use one card per table, per visit.

Since he originally extended the offer, Brandt-Lee has redeemed around 20 Tango cards, including some that were purchased shortly before the restaurant’s closure.

Brandt-Lee made a similar offer eight years ago when Gilmore’s in West Chester closed without warning.

Tango was located in a space owned by AMTRAK at the Bryn Mawr train station. The space is currently being marketed as “extremely below market lease with 10+ years remaining.”

Tango’s liquor license will most likely be offered to whoever leases the restaurant.
