Lawyer Patrick J. Kurtas is the new president of the Montgomery Bar Association, and the first to come from the Pottstown area since it was founded in 1885, writes Carl Hessler Jr. for the Phoenixville News.

Forty-two-year-old Kurtas is also one of the youngest lawyers to ascend to the post in recent history.

Kurtas did not hide his excitement over being appointed president of the association that serves more than 2,100 members. He also admitted to being baffled by the fact that he is the first Pottstown lawyer to be its president.

“I know very well that some of the best and finest attorneys in the county and commonwealth are there,” he said. “It makes me proud to be the one that has been chosen from that area.”

Kurtas was officially made president during the association’s annual luncheon at the Blue Bell Country Club. He succeeds lawyer Gregory R. Gifford in the position.

A Chester County native, Kurtas holds a degree in political science from Ursinus College and has graduated from the Villanova University School of Law in 2002.
