After 65 years, Wayne Sporting Goods, the iconic store that once outfitted the Philadelphia Eagles, will be closing its doors for good in the spring, writes Linda Stein for Main Line Media News.

The business is run by Roger Galczenski, who joined his father when he was 18 years old and never looked back. Now, at 73, he has decided it is time to retire.

His decision was helped after BSN Sports bought the team apparel half of the business. Galczenski’s son, Steve, will stay on with the new company. Meanwhile, the building on Lancaster Avenue in Wayne will be put on the market.

“When we announced it, we got 400 t-shirts made up with 1955 to 2020, and they were gone in like three hours,” said Galczenski’s wife, Karen.

Over time, the Galczenskis have seen a lot of changes in which sports interest customers the most. Today, tennis and football have slowed down, while soccer and pickleball are taking off. Baseball has also become a year-round sport.

“We’ve had a lot of Phillies players come in,” said Galczenski. “We’ve had some Flyers, Phillies, once in a while an Eagles player.”
