The second batch of Boardroom Spirits’ nocino, the distillery’s elusive and deliciously tasting walnut liqueur, is out right in time for the holidays, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The seasonal Italian spirit combines the tastes of vanilla, cardamom, citrus peel, and cinnamon, and was further tweaked this year to make it more well-rounded and sippable.

The result, according to the distillery’s co-owner and distiller Marat Mamedov “tastes like Christmas in a cup.”

The distilling process began in June, with the arrival of a shipment of green walnuts from California. The unripe nuts were then broken down into pieces and left to soak in vodka and barrel-aged grape brandy.

The walnuts provide the drink with a bitter, espresso-esque flavor which rounds out the bland of warm, holiday-themed spices.

Finally, before the spirit was bottled, it was cut with water and wildflower honey.

This year, the distillery has decided to reduce nocino from 80 to 56 proof to better showcase its fruity complexity and rich body.

In addition to the Boardroom, the spirit can be found in several other Philadelphia-area establishments, including Charlie was a Sinner, Royal Boucherie, and Urban Village Brewing.
