In September 2019, Delaware County Community College agreed to buy the former Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School to create a new Upper Darby full-service campus.

The Prendergast building at Garrett Road and Lansdowne Avenue will provide 30 classrooms with chemistry and biology labs, according to a release  from the college.

The campus will offer a variety of academic and career or technical programs.

There will be student support services, community education programs and a community empowerment center.

The site will also include a separate early childhood education center on the property operated by the YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

The college has been holding community forums to share plans and receive suggestions.  The next forums are scheduled Thursday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m., at the Darby Borough Recreation Center in Darby and Wednesday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m., at Drexel Hill Middle School in Drexel Hill.

To attend, contact Patricia Wenger at 610-359-5288.

“Based on the important feedback we have received from our community members, we envision a comprehensive, multi-use facility that will provide quality, affordable education and training, as well as community programs for Delaware County residents,” said DCCC President, Dr. Gates Black
