Variety staff and supporters selected for Brighter Futures Awards

Variety - the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley is pleased to announce key supporters and staff of the organization will be recognized at the 27th Annual My City My Place Brighter Futures Award luncheon.

Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley is pleased to announce key supporters andstaff of the organization will be recognized at the 27th Annual My City My Place Brighter Futures Award luncheon on March 22 at Philadelphia 201 Hotel. These individuals have been selected by the Philadelphia Intellectual DisAbility
Services (IDS) for making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.

Jerrel Ruttenberg and Brian Smith from Firstrust Financial Resources were named winners in the Financial category which recognizes those assisting in providing information for individuals with disabilities and works with them to understand and feel satisfied with their current and future financial situation. Ruttenberg and Smith host a series of free financial planning seminars on relevant topics for parents, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities.

In nominating Ruttenberg and Smith, Variety’s Director of Programs Heather Rothman wrote, “Jerrel’s obvious passion for this program is so personal, and he’s so willing to share his own experiences with his son, that it creates hope for families regardless of what stage of life their child is in. Brian’s commitment to giving parents information that is relevant, comprehensive, yet easily understandable, provides comfort and support for a wide array of people who need this resource.”

In addition to the Financial Award for Ruttenberg and Smith, honorable mentions will be awarded in the Social category (those who help individuals with disabilities develop a sense of connection, belonging and a well-developed support system) to Angela Hall, Variety Camp Director and Carol Lawrence, Variety parent; in the Employment/Career Development category (helps individual with disabilities to feel personal satisfaction with their work and creates/provides enrichment or volunteer activities as well as enrichment in the work environment) to Tyler Kammerle, Variety Community Training Coordinator; Galen Graham, Variety Community Employment Specialist; and Jennifer Burnley, Owner, Scent & Sip in Lansdale & Variety Works Community Partner; and in the Cultural Arts category (assist with providing or promoting creative expression) Maureen Stanko, Variety parent.
