The Texas fugitive Jon Vincent has been found living in Lansdale as Nathan Laskoski, thanks to an accidental discovery on the genealogy website Ancestry.com, writes Jeremy Roebuck for Philly.com.

Vincent was convicted of indecency with a child in 1991. He served out five years of his ten-year sentence before being released into a halfway house, which he promptly fled.

To hide, he found a gravestone with a birthdate similar to his own, that of Nathan Laskoski and assumed Laskoski’s name and social security number.  For more than two decades Vincent lived as Laskoski, marrying twice and fathering twin daughters in Lansdale.

But Vincent’s ruse was discovered in December by Laskoski’s aunt. She was perusing Ancestry.com and found records detailing Vincent’s life using the name of her deceased nephew.

In an emotional hearing last week before U.S. District Judge Jan E. DuBois, Vincent apologized to Nathan Laskoski’s parents for the first time, saying that he was a different man these days.

“As a father now, I understand how precious kids are,” he said.

Vincent was sentenced to federal prison for two years and three months, after which he will be extradited to Texas to serve out the remainder of his original sentence.
