Lansdale native Sean McDermott’s next chapter in his NFL journey is taking shape, even if it’s not on the sidelines just yet, writes Aaindri Thakuri for Essentially Sports.
After nearly a decade leading the Buffalo Bills and turning the franchise into a consistent playoff contender, McDermott was dismissed following another postseason exit. Despite compiling an 8-8 playoff record and multiple AFC East titles, the team’s inability to reach a Super Bowl ultimately led to the decision.
A few months removed from coaching, McDermott is now set to reappear in the national spotlight as an analyst during the upcoming NFL Draft. The role marks his first public return to the league since his departure.
Rather than immediately pursuing another coaching job, McDermott has taken a measured approach. He’s been studying film, spending time with family, and learning from other elite minds in sports, including NBA championship coach Mark Daigneault and wrestling icon Dan Gable.
The strategy mirrors that of former colleague Steve Spagnuolo, who returned stronger after time away. With several NFL openings expected, McDermott is likely to be a top candidate.
