MCCC Awards $50,000 in Grants to Five Local Startups

Montgomery County Community College has awarded five area startup businesses with more than $50,000 in grants through its Karen A. Stout Start-up Accelerator Fund, writes Donna Rovins for Berks-Mont News.

Six business owners presented their plans to a panel of judges at MCCC in February. The panel then judged them on several criteria, including their potential impact to Montgomery County and the region.

Among this year’s recipients was GamePlan, the app that helps people decide where to eat or drink, which was awarded $4,000. NeuroFlow, a mental health software solution, was awarded $10,000 for further development and an additional $10,000 once it confirms its FDA submission.

Alpha Bravo Canine, the nonprofit that provides service dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD, received $3,000, while iCareQuality, an open-source platform for the healthcare industry, received $15,000.

Finally, staffing and recruitment services provider Cryten, was awarded a $10,000 advance that needs to be repaid with a year, less $2,000 for each Norristown resident or veteran its hires.

“We carefully considered each presentation based on the strength of their business plans and where we felt we could have the greatest impact,” said Gaetan Giannini, dean of the Business and Entrepreneurial Initiatives at MCCC.
