GVF Celebrates National Bike to Work Day with Montco, Chesco Commissioners
In observation of National Bike to Work Day, GVF partnered with Montgomery County Commissioners Val Arkoosh and Joseph Gale and Chester County Commissioner Michelle Kichline to host its sixth annual Bike to Work Day.
GVF organized two meet-up locations for cyclists. One group in Phoenixville and the other at the Norristown Transportation Center. The groups then cycled to Valley Forge Historical National Park.
Montgomery and Chester counties have a daytime population of more than 1.2 million commuters. GVF is focused on working with employers to provide a better quality of life for their employees, and educate on alternatives to driving alone, such as biking.
“We have over 400,000 people who work in Montgomery County and live within a 15-minute drive of where they work, but less than one percent of them bike to work,” said Arkoosh. “So think what a difference we could make in road congestion and air pollution if we got that one percent up to two percent or four percent of 400,000 people.
“It would be a real game-changer in our region.”
