Abington Speech Pathology Services has added RemoteSpeech, a new high-definition video calling service that helps people in schools, hospitals, and retirement communities who are struggling with speech issues, writes Marissa Stern for Jewish Exponent.

The Willow Grove Company launched the service in September to provide the therapy remotely. To boost awareness, owner Orna Kempler-Azulay has also been working on promoting the new service as part of Better Hearing & Speech Month run by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

“We staff entire school caseloads via RemoteSpeech,” she said. “We can staff remote schools like up in the boondocks, in very rural areas where there’s not an abundance of professional staff.”

Instead, students can simply log in using their meeting number during their allocated time slot to remotely meet with their therapist. Parents also have the option of logging in and observing the session.

Another advantage of the new service is that it uses flashcards and technologically enhanced games as part of the therapy. This helps draw in the younger generations, often making them forget they are even having therapy.

Kempler-Azulay noted that the service can also be used by adults, but this can sometimes be problematic as not all insurers cover it.
