The Pennsylvania School Library Association has chosen Baldwin School’s libraries as the winner of the 2017 Outstanding Library Individual Award, according to a staff report for Main Line Times.
The Bryn Mawr school’s libraries were selected after they exceeded several of the key criteria used by the PSLA when determining the winner. These included “Developing a Vision for Learning,” “Building a Learning Environment” and “Empowering Learning through Leadership.”
“Baldwin’s libraries are truly an exemplary example of Pennsylvania school libraries,” said Allison Burrell, PSLA president.
The award process, which began in June 2016, is a thorough assessment of all aspects of a library. It required detailed submissions in 30 different evaluation areas along with letters of support from administrators and teachers.
This was then followed up in November by an in-person visit from the Awards Committee to assess areas such as the libraries contribution to the overall mission and educational strategy of the School.
Lisa Lopez-Carickhoff“The Library program at Baldwin enjoys tremendous support from the entire Baldwin School community,“ said Lisa Lopez-Carickhoff, Director of Libraries and Information Services. ”This has enabled us to develop a school library program that is innovative, exciting and organic.”
