A new townhome community is giving a brownfield site in Lower Providence Township a new lease on life.

Location of Lower Providence Township in Montgomery County

As it has done several times in the region, builder WB Homes will develop a site that was previously part of an industrial use and return it to beneficial use.

The property, at Germantown Pike and River Road, was formerly owned by the Superior Tube Company.

“We were made aware of the site in 2014 and loved the location,” said Christopher Canavan, Senior Vice President for WB Homes. “It’s a great location for commuters.”

The company wasn’t deterred by the site’s environmental challenges that included limited soil and groundwater contamination.

In fact, Canavan said, WB Homes is focused on developing brownfields and returning them to viable use.

“The site will now be cleaned up for residential use, and will no longer be an issue for the community,” Canavan said.

The development will be known as the Courts at Brynwood. It will include 139 townhomes situated around three courtyards, creating the feel of neighborhoods.

With two- and three-story options, the homes will meet a variety of needs, from first-time homebuyers to those looking to scale down.

Groundbreaking is anticipated for the fall of 2017, and model homes are expected to be ready by early March 2018.
