Wynnewood’s Avery Lewis Sets New Speed Record, Claims Fastest Girl in US Title

Avery Lewis who runs for Friends’ Central School, set two Colgate Women’s Games Records last season as an Elementary A competitor.

11-year-old Avery Lewis from Wynnewood maintained her reputation as one of the fastest girls in the nation by setting a new record at the preliminary stage of the 43rd Colgate Women’s Games over the weekend, writes Gary Puleo for eNewsChannels.

The Colgate Women’s Games is the nation’s largest female amateur indoor track and field series. The event is open to competitors ranging in age from first grade to college and beyond.

Lewis of Friends’ Central School added to her two previous records from last years competition. This year she moved up one age/grade to division to Elementary B from Elementary A.

She now holds the Elementary A records in the 55m at 7.75 seconds, the 200m at 28.08 seconds and her latest one, the Elementary B 55m record at 7.35 seconds.

“Avery is the only competitor to hold three Colgate Women’s Games concurrently,“ said  Meet Director Cheryl Toussaint. “It’s really exciting when our younger participants excel because it inspires so many more to kids to choose athletics as a path to success.
