Bryn Mawr Film Institute to Screen Award-Winning Documentary on Professional Caregivers

Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research is hosting a showing of the award-winning documentary film Portraits of Professional Caregivers: Their Passion. Their Pain., which focuses on the impact of vicarious trauma.

The documentary will run on Oct. 13 at 6:30 PM at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute on 824 Lancaster Avenue.

It has been co-produced by filmmaker and licensed clinical social worker Vic Compher and Rodney Whittenberg, the Emmy-award-winning composer and filmmaker. The film examines the ways that secondary traumatic stress or compassion fatigue affects individuals providing care to traumatized or suffering people.

The film presents the impact of secondary traumatic stress through a series of dramatic first person stories that portray the struggles and the resilience of dedicated professionals such as police, firefighters, and social workers.

The screening is free and open to the public, and will include a Q-and-A session with a panel that includes Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel and investigative journalist Stephen Fried.
