It’s been her lifelong dream to open a small, independent bookstore, and the mere mention of that coming reality on Facebook and in the news is quickly becoming the best read of the fall for Narberth residents.

“All I’ve ever wanted is a little bookstore,” Ellen Trachtenberg said in a Main Line Media News report by Cheryl Allison. Narberth Bookshop will soon bring that dream to fruition in the former Wolfe’s Pool Supplies storefront downtown.

Trachtenberg’s vision for Narberth Bookshop combines a premium curation of titles — “I intend to hand-select every book that comes into the store,” she said — with an irresistible atmosphere.

In the article, “she repeats Gloria Steinem’s quote about these local treasures: ‘Wherever I go, bookstores are still the closest thing to a town square.’ She wants Narberth Bookshop to be that place ‘where people gather and share ideas.’”

At the center of that ambiance is a bustling schedule of author visits and lively discussions; there’s a meeting room at the back of the store.

Trachtenberg intends to quietly open her doors in late October and host a grand opening Nov. 5.
