Two King of Prussia-based companies have joined forces with McKesson Health Solutions acquiring HealthQX, the health technology company founded three years ago, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

As part of the transaction, McKesson Health Solutions acquired HealthQX’s ClarityQX, the software platform designed to help payers and providers transition from fee-for-service payments to value-based care.

“We want to integrate our resources into their platform to grow the business,” said Carolyn Wukitch, McKesson’s general manager for network and financial management.

The software automates and scales complex payment models such as bundled payments, which have insurers pay a hospital or doctor a fixed sum for the complete care a patient receives from various providers.

“Think of it like you are hiring a general contractor to build an addition onto your house,” said Mark McAdoo, former CEO of HealthQX and now vice president for value-based payments at McKesson. “You pay him one price. Then he has to pay all the subcontractors he uses.”

McAdoo said that the general contractor makes money by carefully managing the subcontractors’ expenses.
