Lower Merion Resident Becomes YouTube Superstar with Makeup Tutorials and Comedy Sketches
Twenty-one-year-old YouTube superstar Rachel Levin never expected that the simple makeup tutorial video she filmed at her Lower Merion home when she was 15 would result in 8.3 million subscribers, sponsorship contracts, and packed mall appearances, writes Elizabeth Wellington for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Also known as Rclbeauty101 to her many followers, Levin has evolved from how-to videos to comedienne over the years and now ranks 92nd in the world of YouTube subscribers.
“I never thought I would ever be that popular,” said Levin. “I’m shocked every single day.”
Fame knocked on Levin’s door early in her YouTube career when the Wall Street Journal featured her in an article about the rising popularity of makeup tutorials.
Having more than 1,000 subscribers ensures that Levin gets income from ads that run on her YouTube channel. While she keeps the amount to herself, with her videos averaging 100 million views a month, it is likely a sizable amount.
“I didn’t think it was possible for me to have the life I have right now,” Levin said. “And if I have so much happiness right now, I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
