Inside The Library Collegeville, the Restaurant Rewriting the Story of a Civil War-Era Building

The Library has transformed a Collegeville building into a lively restaurant known for cocktails, short rib dishes, and polished decor.

When The Library opened on Collegeville’s Main Street in June 2024, it brought craft cocktails and comfort food to a building that had been part of the borough since before the Civil War.

The Library, located at 217 E. Main Street, has quickly become one of the most talked-about additions to Collegeville’s dining scene.

Opened in June 2024 in the former DaVinci’s building, the restaurant brought new life to a property with deep local roots. The building dates back to around 1850, when it was known as The Railroad House Hotel, an inn and restaurant across from the old Collegeville train station.

Today, the old Main Street space has been reimagined as an upscale-casual restaurant and bar with a warm, polished personality. The name is not just for show.

Inside, The Library leans into a collegiate, study-inspired feel, with leather seating, green built-ins, mirrors, warm wood floors, and a lounge-like area where guests can settle in with a cocktail.

A Restaurant Group With Deep Regional Roots

The Library comes with a familiar local pedigree. The restaurant is the work of chef and restaurateur partners Gent Mema, Josh Friedberg, and Orbelin Bitraj.

The partners also operate Il Granaio in Glen Mills and Phoenixville, Versante in Schwenksville, and Antica Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar in Chadds Ford.

That background helps explain why the Collegeville spot feels less like a one-off opening and more like a carefully built hospitality concept designed for both dinner and drinks.

But this is not a hushed reading room. Inside The Library as lively, stylish, and comfortable. It’s the kind of place that works for date night, lunch with family, drinks at the bar, and dinner with friends.

For those with out-of-town guests, it’s a place that feels distinctly local.

A Menu Built Around Comfort and Craft

The menu has helped build the buzz. Diners repeatedly praise the short-rib egg rolls, arancini, fig crostini, calamari, salmon pasta, shrimp cocktail, and risotto primavera.

The Library fries, topped with braised short-rib gravy and cheddar, have the feel of a signature bar dish. The white chocolate bread pudding has also earned the kind of praise dessert lovers remember.

Cocktails are part of the identity, too. Guests have called out the espresso martinis, mojitos, and Aperol spritzes. The official cocktail list plays into the literary theme. Drinks have names like Tequila Mockingbird, Murder on the Orient Espresso, Gin Expectations, and A Farewell to Mojitos.

What to Know Before You Go

The biggest compliment running through customer reviews may be that The Library feels like a full transformation.

Several diners describe it as a major upgrade from the former DaVinci’s space. They point to the revamped interior, attentive service, and a “classy chic” atmosphere. One local reviewer said the restaurant had “completely revitalized the spot.”

Once inside, the bar and high-top area can get loud on busy nights. But the dining room is quiet and easy to talk in.

The Library has given Collegeville a polished new gathering place with historic bones, strong cocktails, comfort-driven plates, and enough energy to make Main Street feel livelier after dark.
