Montgomery County has three companies on the 2026 Fortune 500, and one of them ranks among the ten largest corporations in the entire country, writes Ryan Mulligan for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
That is not a small thing.
Fortune released their list last week. Conshohocken’s Cencora, King of Prussia’s Universal Health Services, and Fort Washington’s Toll Brothers all made it.
The annual ranking measures the 500 largest U.S. companies by revenue. Nationally, the big headline was Amazon dethroning Walmart at No. 1 for the first time in 13 years. But for Montco, the story is closer to home.
Cencora: A Top-10 Company, Right Here in Montco
Not many places can say they are home to a top-10 company on the Fortune 500. Conshohocken can.
Cencora, the pharmaceutical services giant formerly known as AmerisourceBergen, landed at No. 10 nationally with more than $300 billion in annual revenue.
That puts it in elite company. Only nine other businesses in the entire United States generated more revenue last year. Cencora is not just the highest-ranked company in the Philadelphia region.
It is one of the highest-ranked companies in Pennsylvania, full stop. For a county that often plays second fiddle to Philadelphia in regional business conversations, that distinction matters.
UHS and Toll Brothers Round Out the County’s Presence
King of Prussia-based Universal Health Services returned to the list at No. 255, marking its 23rd consecutive year on the Fortune 500.
The hospital and behavioral health company has quietly built one of the most consistent track records of any regional corporate anchor, appearing on the list every year since the early 2000s.
Fort Washington-based Toll Brothers landed at No. 399, a reminder that Montco’s corporate strength extends well beyond health care and pharmaceuticals.
The luxury homebuilder has expanded aggressively in recent years, and its continued presence on the list reflects both the company’s national footprint and its deep roots in the region.
How Montco Stacks Up Against Its Neighbors
Three Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Montgomery County puts it ahead of every other county in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Philadelphia proper claims two — Comcast at No. 35 and Aramark at No. 239. Delaware County has one, Radnor-based Lincoln National. Bucks County and Chester County do not have a Fortune 500 headquarters on this year’s list.
In a region that has watched its Fortune 500 footprint shrink in recent years, Montgomery County is holding the line. Its three entries this year represent a genuine point of civic and economic pride.
