Northeast Philadelphia Airport Set for Upgrades After Receiving $1.4M in Federal Funding

Northeast Philadelphia Airport has received funding that will see $1M for airfield improvements and $400K for perimeter fencing upgrades.

Northeast Philadelphia Airport has received $1.4 million in federal funding, which will be used to administer several infrastructure upgrades, writes Cherise Lynch for NBC10 Philadelphia.

The funding was presented by Congressman Brendan Boyle during a recent press conference via two checks.

“This is the third busiest airport in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” said Congressman Boyle. “So, this is a real economic driver for not just Northeast Philadelphia, not just the entire city of Philadelphia, but really all of Southeastern Pennsylvania as well as adjacent South Jersey.”

The $1.4 million funding will be designated through $1 million for airfield improvements and $400,000 for perimeter fencing upgrades, respectively.

The upgrades will be aplenty, including the rehabilitation of Taxiway C, repairing pavement deficiencies, upgrading airfield lighting, signage, and drainage systems. The plan is the expand its lifespan to 20 years and also meet current Federal Aviation Administration standards.

“ I am proud to present $1.4 million in total to Northeast Philadelphia Airport,” Congressman Boyle added.
