A historic piano maker is moving its operations to King of Prussia, writes Emma Dooling for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

Cunningham Piano Co. plans to relocate from its longtime Germantown headquarters to a new 15,000-square-foot facility on Henderson Road in King of Prussia.

The new space will combine the company’s warehousing, woodworking and restoration operations with a showroom, teaching studios and a small performance venue. Cunningham expects to open the new hub to customers in May, while its existing King of Prussia showroom will close as part of the consolidation.

Founded in 1891 in West Philadelphia, Cunningham Piano has operated for more than a century. It currently maintains additional showrooms in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and Delmar, Delaware.

The company’s Germantown building, where it has operated for decades, is under agreement of sale.

Owners Tim Oliver and Rich Galassini said the move will streamline operations while giving the business a modern facility better suited for deliveries and storage. Plans for the new King of Prussia showroom include a stage for performances and a “First Fridays” series featuring touring musicians and workshops for local piano teachers.

Cunningham also sees opportunities to expand into underserved regional markets as the piano retail landscape shifts.
