Bryn Mawr Entrepreneur Turns Kale Into a Convenient Wellness Brand

Bryn Mawr entrepreneur Charlie Szoradi is growing OnlyKale, a wellness brand built around convenient organic freeze-dried kale.

Bryn Mawr entrepreneur Charlie Szoradi is looking to make healthy eating easier with OnlyKale, writes J.F. Pirro for Main Line Today.

OnlyKale is a brand built around organic freeze-dried kale products designed for convenience, nutrition, and everyday use.

Szoradi, who cofounded the company, said the idea grew out of his own routine. After growing about 60 heads of kale each year for home use, he grew frustrated with how difficult it was to take fresh kale on the go. That led to the creation of single-serve sticks and powdered products that can be added to water, smoothies, and other foods.

He sees kale as a powerful natural food with broad health benefits. It can provide everything from energy and recovery to immune support and even weight management. But convenience is a major part of the pitch.

By freeze-drying kale at farms, Szoradi says OnlyKale is able to retain more nutrients than fresh kale that spends days traveling across the country. Powderizing it also cuts shipping weight and creates a shelf-stable product with a smaller footprint.

Looking ahead, he hopes to grow OnlyKale beyond e-commerce and into grocery, health-food, and lifestyle stores.
