Take a stroll through Ardmore and you might notice a familiar aroma: burgers sizzling on the grill, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Lower Merion has quietly become what some are calling the burger capital of the Main Line, with about 16 local eateries serving their own take on the American classic.
From pub burgers and diner staples to smashburgers and creative spins topped with ingredients like fried shrimp, Ardmore’s menus have turned the humble burger into a local specialty.
Two recent openings have helped fuel the trend. Bikini Burger, located on Rittenhouse Place, focuses on simple, high-quality ingredients with never-frozen beef patties and classic toppings served on Martin’s potato rolls. Just a short walk away on Station Avenue, Gouldsburger’s recently opened a franchise location offering build-your-own burgers, steakhouse-style patties, and truffle fries.
Ardmore’s burger boom reflects the town’s growing reputation as a dining destination. Its walkable downtown, proximity to SEPTA’s Regional Rail, and steady mix of shoppers, families, and college students create the kind of all-day foot traffic that casual restaurants depend on.
That environment has made burgers a natural fit, affordable, familiar, easy to order for takeout, and flexible enough to work as a quick lunch or a night out.
