With America in the midst of a loneliness epidemic, music has proven to be a great way to reduce cortisol and increase positivity, writes Annemarie Dooling for Eater Philly.
Listening to music — coupled with great cocktails and nice vibes — can be a great in helping address loneliness, social isolation, and boost connections.
Thankfully, Philadelphia has several listening bars that can fulfill all these elements.
LMNO in Fishtown is one of them. This lounge features a wide selection of music options, from funk to big band, and everything in between.
During its listening parties, anyone can play DJ.
“We’re teaching a younger generation of listeners that there’s a second side to the vinyl,” said LMNO general manager Kayla Karp.
48 Record Bar in Old City was added to the city’s listening bar scene in December 2023, where creative director Joey Sweeney wants all guests to get introduced to several genres.
There’s also Doom, a metal bar in Callowhill.
Last year, DJ Nash opened Sweet 45, a new ice cream shop in Fishtown that also allows customers to enjoy great music.
It’s also worth mentioning Milkcrate in West Philadelphia, Poison Heart in Spring Garden, Solar Myth on South Broad Street, and SOOK Vinyl & Vintage in Mount Airy.
