A coyote attack injured a trail user in Chester County on Sunday, Dec. 28, writes Tom Ignudo for CBS News Philadelphia.
According to the police, the incident took place on Warwick Furnace Road in Warwick Township.
It is not known whether the hiker was bitten or scratched during the encounter, but the coyote did lacerate their skin, said Jeanne E. Franklin, the public health director of Chester County.
The injured person has been reported to be doing well and was advised by health officials to receive rabies shots as a precaution, even though it is unclear if the animal was rabid.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is actively attempting to locate the coyote and is requesting that anyone with information regarding its location contact the Chester County Health Department at 610-344-6225.
Police are urging the public not to approach the animal if spotted, emphasizing that any attempts to catch it could be dangerous.
