From church pews in Haiti to stages and studios across the region, Vanessa Howard has spent a lifetime learning to use her voice, writes J.F. Piro for Main Line Today.
Now based in Collegeville, the gospel singer, radio host, licensed preacher, and soon-to-be published author is channeling that voice into music, ministry, and advocacy for caregivers.
Performing under the name Nisa, Howard has released multiple projects, including her 2017 album We Celebrate and a string of singles that blend gospel, classical, and jazz influences. Along the way, she hosted Total Transformation Radio on WWDB-AM and built a reputation as both a performer and a preacher rooted in faith and service.
Much of Howard’s current work is shaped by her experience raising her eldest son, Marcus, who has cerebral palsy. That journey inspired her forthcoming book, More Than Enough: Broken Crayons Still Color, which focuses on the emotional toll and overlooked needs of caregivers. It also led her to launch Inspire 4 Hope, a nonprofit advocacy group supporting families of individuals with special needs.
Beyond writing and advocacy, Howard teaches music through her Inspire Music Academy for Growth and performs annually at the Garrett Hill July 4th Parade. For Montco, her story reflects the power of creativity paired with purpose and a local voice determined to be heard.
