A popular Philly bagel shop is making a hometown return with a new location in Bala Cynwyd, writes Denali Sagner for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Bart’s Bagels is opening a Main Line outpost this summer, bringing its kettle-boiled New York–style bagels, smoked meats, egg sandwiches, and creative schmears to Montco. The move marks a meaningful homecoming for cofounders and brothers Brett and Kyle Frankel, who grew up just a short walk from the new storefront.
The Bala Cynwyd shop will serve the same fan-favorite offerings found at Bart’s West and South Philadelphia locations, including pumpernickel bagels, pastrami smoked salmon, and beet-horseradish cream cheese. Unlike the city locations, which are strictly grab-and-go, the suburban space will include limited seating.
Bart’s began as a wholesale operation in 2019, supplying bagels to local heavyweights like Di Bruno Bros. and White Dog Cafe before opening its first brick-and-mortar shop in West Philly in early 2020. A South Philly location followed in 2024, and the Bala Cynwyd opening continues the brand’s steady growth.
The Frankels won’t be alone on the Main Line bagel scene for long, either, with PopUp Bagels also slated to open in Ardmore’s Suburban Square this year.
