Two TSA security checkpoints closed Wednesday at the Philadelphia International Airport just before the busiest travel seasons of the year, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Transportation Security Administration checkpoint closures at Terminals A-West and F are likely a result of the federal government shutdown, though PHL and TSA did not directly connect the checkpoint closures to the shutdown.
The closures are being done at the request of the TSA, which did not immediately comment.
The government shutdown is now entering its second month.
International and regional flight terminals are affected by the closures, and PHL recommends arriving two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.
“Optimal operations” will continue at four remaining security checkpoints at Terminals A-East, B, C, and D/E, according to the airport.
The government shutdown is already impacting air travel because of a shortage of TSA workers and air traffic controllers, all federal employees, though so far, PHL has been spared most of its effects.
Nearly 68,000 flights with a combined 9.09 million seats were scheduled to depart from PHL in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the aviation analytics platform Cirium.
