Affordable Senior Housing Project Breaks Ground In Ardmore

Construction starts on Ardmore House II, an affordable housing project designed to help seniors stay in one of Montco's most expensive towns.

Construction has started on Ardmore House II, an affordable housing project designed to help seniors stay in one of Montgomery County’s most expensive towns, writes Kim Hudson for CBS News Philadelphia.

HumanGood, a national nonprofit group, is building the 48-unit building, similar to the one that it already operates in Philadelphia, the Janney Apartments in Port Richmond.

The new building will be located behind the original Ardmore House, developed by a different organization.

According to HumanGood Vice President of Development Vidhi Anderson, low-income seniors need such development in this neighborhood.

“So, these are people that we know personally and who are looking to move out of their rowhomes or townhomes because they’re older and they just want a safer place to live,” said Anderson, who is also an Ardmore resident.

The $20 million development earned strong backing from Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Chair Neil Makhija, who noted that many seniors cannot afford market-rate housing in Ardmore.

“This is a housing project that’s going to help seniors stay here in Ardmore, in Montgomery County, and I hope to see many more projects like it,” he said.
