Norristown’s own Cavan Sullivan takes the spotlight in Qatar, writes MLS Soccer.
The 16-year-old scored the game-winning goal in his debut at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The Philadelphia Union midfielder sealed a 1-0 victory for the United States over Burkina Faso on Wednesday, marking a dream start to his World Cup journey.
Sullivan entered as a second-half substitute in the 62nd minute and delivered in the 79th. He converted a cross from Mathis Albert of Borussia Dortmund. His clinical finish gave Team USA the edge in their Group I opener. In doing so, Sullivan solidified his reputation as one of soccer’s brightest young stars.
A Norristown native and homegrown Union signee since age 14, Sullivan has already appeared in 18 first-team matches and become a standout for Philadelphia Union II. The rising phenom is widely viewed as a “generational talent” and is expected to join Manchester City in the coming years.
Back home, the Union are chasing an MLS Cup title as the league’s top seed with Sullivan’s older brother, Quinn.
Both Sullivans represent not only Montco, but the future of American soccer on the world stage.
