M. Night Shyamalan Returns to TV and Coauthors a New Novel with Nicholas Sparks

Lower Merion’s M. Night Shyamalan Returns to Television and Coauthors a New Romance Novel with Nicholas Sparks.

Lower Merion’s legendary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is branching into new creative realms, writes Earl Hopkins for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Shyamalan has two projects creating buzz: one is a TV series while the other is a novel.

Shyamalan will direct Magic 8 Ball, a live-action TV series inspired by the iconic Mattel toy. He is a cocreator alongside Brad Falchuk, known for Glee and American Horror Story.

The project marks Shyamalan’s first return to television since Apple TV+’s Servant concluded in 2023. “Been working on this for a couple years … Who’s in?” he teased on Instagram, posting an image of the pilot script topped by a Magic 8 Ball.

Meanwhile, the Academy Award–winning filmmaker has also teamed up with bestselling author Nicholas Sparks on Remain, a novel that fuses Shyamalan’s eerie storytelling with Sparks’ trademark romantic touch.

Published by Penguin Random House, the book follows an architect seeking redemption on Cape Cod. It will soon be adapted into a film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor, slated for a 2026 release.

For the visionary from Lower Merion, known for The Sixth Sense and Signs, these latest ventures promise more unexpected twists in his ever-evolving career.
