Lansdale Twin Sisters Honor Late Field Hockey Advocate Gretta Ehret with Penn State Season Dedication

Lansdale twins Kerry and Riley O’Donnell, sophomores at Penn State, dedicating season to late field hockey advocate Gretta Ehret.

Lansdale twins Kerry and Riley O’Donnell, sophomores at Penn State, are dedicating this season to late field hockey advocate Gretta Ehret, writes Greg Finberg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The sisters have been linked since birth, and this connection extended into field hockey creating an unmatched chemistry.

“We love playing together,” said Riley. “When we’re on the field together, we have this spark. We just know what each other is going to do.”

The twins were coached in high school by Gretta Ehret’s sister, Emilee. Gretta was Merion Mercy Academy’s field hockey coach until six years ago, then retired to focus on battling breast cancer. She continued attending most games at the twins’ high school, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, to support her sister and often spoke to the team about perseverance.

Always cheering from the sidelines, Gretta helped with college recruitment, offered field hockey advice, and lived by the “Dream Crazy” motto during her fight with cancer. She passed away on June 25 aged 38.

“This season is meant for Gretta,” said Kerry. “We have our Hocsocx we wear for every game that say ‘Dream Crazy.’ Our sticks have ‘Dream Crazy’ stickers. It’s special.”
