Hatfield's Clemens Food Group has been recognized with the Family-Owned Business Awards 2025 by The Philadelphia Business Journal.

Clemens Food Group, headquartered in Hatfield, has been recognized with the Family-Owned Business Awards 2025 by the Philadelphia Business Journal, writes Lindsey Nolen for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company, whose history includes a wagon ride into Philadelphia, has now celebrated its 130th year. For Clemens Food Group President Brad Clemens, this milestone reflects the enduring values that have now guided the company through six generations.

“Our great-great-grandfather, John C. Clemens, founded the business based on three principles: ethics, integrity, and stewardship,” said Clemens. “That still guides every decision we make today.”

The business began as a modest operation with a big heart. The founder would butcher his own hogs to sell in the city, and then came back home loaded with fruit that he could share with the local community.

His motto was “Never an empty wagon,” which turned into a practical strategy and remains a reflection of the service-minded philosophy within Clemens Food Group and its commitment to efficiency.

Today, the company is a vertically coordinated pork production company that employs 5,700 people, owns five processing facilities, and generates $2.5 billion in annual revenue.
