“You have the markets, there’s a huge economic piece to it,” she explained. “Then you have to factor in how hog prices work into the company, and where everything’s going. I’ve gained a much greater responsibility.”
The thirty-year-old took over the job seven months ago, after working her way up through the company since 2012.
Prior to this position opening up, she served in various capacities including project management, food safety, and quality control.
Currently, she oversees between 25 and 30 contracts with producers from Pennsylvania and several other states.
Her communication with producers is daily, from working on transportation to ensuring they are compliant with antibiotic-free and ractopamine-free product lines at Clemens.
Ten years from now, Boess is still hoping to be right where she is.
“I’m not planning on moving out of this position for a while,” she said. “I’d like to see where I can take it.”
