Critically acclaimed filmmaker Brad Ingelsby’s Chester County roots once again inspired his upcoming television series, writes Max Bennett for Patch.
Task, Ingelsby’s upcoming series for HBO, takes place in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. The crime drama series follows an FBI agent, played by Mark Ruffalo, as he investigates a series of violent robberies throughout Delaware County.
A Berwyn native, Ingelsby’s local connections influenced the upcoming project. Task was filmed in and around Philadelphia, with several Chester County shooting locations, including Chadds Ford and Coatesville.
Task is Brad Ingelsby’s second major series to take place in the greater Philadelphia region. Mare of Easttown, a 2021 limited series starring Kate Winslet, won four Primetime Emmy Awards, pushing Ingelsby and his hometown to stardom.
Ingelsby shared that his personal history greatly informs his creative works. As a character-driven writer, he feels working class residents of the region don’t often have their stories told.
Ingelsby shared that television writing allows for deeper character development compared to feature films. By highlighting everyday life in his beloved hometown, Ingelsby centers an often-erased community with attention and care.
Task premiered on Sept. 7 on HBO, with episodes dropping weekly on Sunday nights. Over the next several weeks of the series’ seven-episode run, audiences can enjoy the high-stakes drama inspired by the region that both Brad Ingelsby and fellow Chester County residents know and love.
