Berwyn’s Brad Ingelsby, Creator of ‘Mare of Easttown,’ Returns to Home Turf for Latest Show

Berwyn native Brad Ingelsby, creator of Mare of Easttown, one of the biggest hits of 2021, returns to home turf with his latest show.

Berwyn native Brad Ingelsby, creator of Mare of Easttown, one of the biggest hits of 2021, has returned to home turf with his latest show, Task, writes Rebecca Ford for Vanity Fair

“It’s where I live now, it’s where I grew up, it’s where I was raised, and it’s where a lot of the important relationships in my life were formed,” he said. “It’s also a place I can speak about and write about with some conviction and authority.”

Task is a new HBO Max miniseries set in working-class suburbs outside Philadelphia. It follows agent Tom Brandis, played by Mark Ruffalo, leading a task force to end drug-house robberies orchestrated by an unsuspecting family man.

The show’s other focus is Robbie Prendergrast, played by Tom Pelphrey, a garbage man breaking into drug houses while trying to fix his family life.

Ingelsby modeled Brandis, an ex-priest turned FBI agent, after his uncle, a former priest who left the clergy for love.

“That was a character that I was interested in – a man whose faith is challenged by events in his life,” said Ingelsby. “How does he react and respond?”
