Old City Yemeni restaurant Malooga is making its Montgomery County debut with the opening of its second location in Narberth, which is expected to begin welcoming guests this fall, writes Denali Sagner for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The expanded site will offer lunch and dinner service, a bakery, extensive indoor and outdoor seating, and space for group events.
The restaurant, which describes itself as “a bold vision to bring authentic Yemeni cuisine to a broader audience,” opened in 2021. Since then, chef Mohammed Aqlan has been cooking up delicious Yemeni dishes alongside some Saudi favorites, such as falafel, shish taouk, stuffed grape leaves, and baba ghanouj.
Omar Alkahily, Malooga’s CEO, said the goal of the restaurant is to “create authentic food from home” while “giving people the high experience.”
The business partners selected Narberth for their first expansion because it is located on the Main Line, where residents love high-quality dining options.
Before the decision was finalized, Alkahily wanderied through local shops and restaurants. What he found was a warm, welcoming community eager to learn about the possibility of a Yemeni restaurant opening in town.
“We’re building, with that community, a future that maintains that feeling of warmth,” he said.
