Downingtown West alum and current NFL player Will Howard faces an uncertain return to the Pittsburgh Steelers after a hand injury, writes Matthew Schmidt for On SI.
A West Chester native, Howard suffered a hand injury during the Steelers’ training camp. He left practice early this past Tuesday, and the departure was later revealed to be due to the injury.
The quarterback’s return to the team remains unclear as he recovers.
Will Howard played at Downingtown West High School before playing college football at both Kansas State and Ohio State Universities. He was selected by the Steelers in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Howard rose to national prominence during his college years. In 2024, he threw for over 4,000 yards, and completed thirty-five touchdowns and ten interceptions while at Ohio State. He led the team to their first national championship in ten years, earning him a reputation as a “cult hero” in Ohio.
Howard’s performance at the College Football Playoff led up to his recruitment by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
While a firm timeline for his return remains uncertain, reports indicate that Howard is expected to miss at least three weeks of training camp as he recovers.
