Celebrate Summer with a Sunflower Festival at Linvilla Orchards

Linvilla Orchards in Media is hosting its Peach & Sunflower Festival Aug. 9 with some pick-your-own options.

On long, hot summer days, sunflowers are a pleasant distraction. On cooler days, they brighten a slow walk through the fields and gardens, reports PA Eats.

These resilient flowers grow slowly, but steadily, reaching full bloom in the latter half of the season, offering amazing long views of deep golden yellow.

Many farms intentionally plant sunflowers by the acre, providing a magnificent backdrop for gazing, photo ops, and flower-picking.

Here in Delaware County, Linvilla Orchards in Media even has a festival to celebrate both sunflowers and peaches.

The Peach & Sunflower Festival is taking place this year on Saturday, Aug. 9, with an Aug. 10 rain date.

An $11 pick-your-own ticket gives you a hayride to the fields where you can fill an empty container with sunflowers, peaches, or both.

Afterwards, visit the orchard center, home to a small zoo, playgrounds, and a farm market with bakery and grill.

Linvilla, a Delaware County mainstay, is located at 137 W. Knowlton Road.

If gardens are less your thing, but hiking in the woods sounds more your style, Delaware County also has hiking trails you can check out at Ridley Creek State Park, writes Lisa Dukart and Anne E. Hill for Main Line Today.

The park covers 2,600 acres and 13 miles of trail systems. Trails range from easy, with walking paths around the Hunting Hill Mansion, to nature trails that run from two to nearly eight miles.  The 7.6-mile yellow trail crosses the creek and winds through the woods.
