The biannual Heritage India Festival, the Washington metropolitan area’s longest-running and largest South Asian festival, is now expanding its footprint to Philadelphia.

It will be held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (Hall C), 100 Station Avenue, Oaks. The timings for the two-day event are 12–9:00 PM on Saturday, Aug. 23, and 12–7:00 PM on Sunday, Aug. 24.

According to Rushhi Entertainment president, Shishir Misra, over 5,000 attendees are expected to browse the 150+ booths of South Asian attractions, including shopping for apparel, jewelry, home décor and more, along with some of the Richmond area’s top South Asian restaurants offering street foods, beverages and desserts.

The festival, which began as an annual event in 2001 in the Washington, D.C. area, has expanded this year to Philadelphia (August) in addition to Richmond. It regularly draws upwards of 12,000 attendees for a spring festival on Mother’s Day weekend and a fall Diwali edition to the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Va.

“Every year, I am increasingly proud of our festival and how it brings together so many different communities to celebrate South Asian culture and heritage,” said Misra, the driving force behind the Virginia-based company that organizes the festival. “Twice a year, we bring together families, both South Asian and American, to celebrate our culture. It truly shows the diversity of this area and celebrates all the great things about South Asia. And now we are thrilled to expand to Richmond so our attendees can experience all that South Asia has to offer.”

The festival will feature over 150 exhibitors and vendors. Specifically, this year’s attractions include:

  • Over 150 booths of shopping, including the best bargains from vendors from all over the U.S. Featured items included women’s, men’s and children’s apparel styles from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Afghanistan, arts, handicrafts, costume and precious metal jewelry, paintings, books and more.
  • Food from different parts of the South Asian subcontinent, including chaat, samosas, kachoris, papdis, dosa, chana-bhatura, idli, vada, fresh-made sweets and namkeens, Indian chai, pastries, and more.

In addition to the tremendous entertainment and shopping values the festival brings to its attendees, it is also a unique and valuable opportunity for regional and national brands to engage with their customers.
