Jenkintown’s own Bradley Cooper is bringing the curtain down on this year’s New York Film Festival with his newest directorial effort, Is This Thing On?, writes Rebecca Rubin for Variety.
The dramatic comedy will make its world premiere on Oct. 10 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall as the prestigious festival’s closing night film.
Inspired by British comedian John Bishop’s life, the story follows Alex, played by Will Arnett. Alex is a newly single dad who reinvents himself as a stand-up comic in New York’s West Village. Laura Dern co-stars as his ex-wife, with a cast that also includes Andra Day, Ciarán Hinds, Amy Sedaris, and even Peyton Manning.
Cooper, who both directed and produced the project, called the selection an honor. “NYC injects an energy into every aspect of filmmaking that just can’t be replicated,” he said. Bradley Cooper filmed across the city earlier this year.
This marks Cooper’s third time behind the camera, following his critically acclaimed turns with A Star Is Born and Maestro.
