Bala Cynwyd’s The 1916 Company Teams Up With ‘Shark Tank’ Investor

The 1916 Company teams with Kevin O'Leary’s WonderCare to offer seamless digital insurance for luxury watches, starting in Ardmore.

Bala Cynwyd’s The 1916 Company has teamed up with ‘Shark Tank’sKevin O’Leary, writes Abigail Chachoute for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Through a new partnership with O’Leary’s WonderCare platform, customers can now insure high-end pieces at checkout.

WonderCare offers a fully digital insurance experience tailored for luxury watches. The platform is backed by insurance powerhouse Chubb Ltd. via its Chubb Studio service.

At the point of sale, buyers are seamlessly guided to WonderCare to get quotes, activate coverage, and manage policies, all online.

1916 CEO John Shmerler says the partnership fills a critical gap in a fast-growing global luxury watch market valued at $63.72 billion.

“As the luxury watch market continues to grow, the need for a tailored, easy-to-access insurance solution has never been more critical,” Shmerler said.

The 1916 Company rebranded in 2024 from Govberg Jewelers. Their brand includes Radcliffe Jewelers, Hyde Park Jewelers, and WatchBox, and they continue their expansion. They recently opened a 7,500 square-foot showroom in Ardmore. This is their first multi-brand retail space in the region. They are also building a new location in Manhattan Beach, California.
