Govberg Jewelers after 107 years in business is rebranding to the 1916 Company and doubling the size of its Ardmore location, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Philadelphia institution, with headquarters in Bala Cynwyd, has been undergoing tremendous growth with the acquisitions of Radcliff Jewelers in Baltimore and Hyde Park Jewelers in Denver.

It also sells second-hand luxury watches and jewelry globally through WatchBox.

The new branding brings all these entities under the umbrella of the 1916 Company, a nod to the year Govberg Jewelers was founded.

Danny Govberg, third-generation owner of Govberg Jewelers and co-founder of WatchBox, will be the executive chairman of the 1916 Company.

His WatchBox co-founder Justin Reis will serve as the company’s global CEO.

Govberg is also planning to double the size of its Ardmore location in Suburban Square. With the expansion, the Ardmore store will be 7,500 square feet.

Govberg said the rebrand connects the new company to the past while giving it a fresh start.

“It was a way of still honoring the past by bringing all these four companies now together to create one of the largest if not the largest, secondary, collectible premium platform in the world together with now one of the largest primary retailers of luxury watches in the world,” he said.
