Pawsibilities Animal Rescue in Skippack is beginning to recover after a devastating fire killed more than a dozen cats and left several other animals missing, write Lili Zheng and Brendan Brightman for NBC10 Philadelphia.

The animal rescue center, owned by Samantha Carroll, has been a safe haven for various abandoned or neglected animals for the last 15 years. But on Sunday, the barn that housed many animals caught on fire.

“She got some chickens out,” said Carroll’s mother, Sher. “She just got out of the way. Firemen came. They’re right up the road, thankfully, but it didn’t matter. It was just too fast.”

The barn was a sanctuary for the rescue and housed cats that were either sick or unavailable for adoption.

“They either hated people or were angry and couldn’t be here,” said Carroll.

Nearly a dozen missing cats have been found, but six still remain unaccounted for. Since the fire, numerous volunteers have stepped forward to assist the rescue.

On Saturday, the organization held an open house and vigil to reflect on the week following the tragedy and express gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support.

For a closer look at the fire’s aftermath, the animals still missing, and how the community is rallying behind this beloved rescue, read the full story on NBC10 Philadelphia.
