Wynnewood’s Jackie Tripoli, a 35-year veteran of Govberg Jewelers, the joy of high-end jewelry isn’t just the sparkle — it’s the people, writes Denali Sagner for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“People let you into their life,” she says, standing inside a glittering new showroom where tears, laughter, and major milestones are often part of the job.
Now rebranded as The 1916 Company, Govberg has taken a bold step forward with the opening of its first official storefront — a 7,500-square-foot showroom at 102 E. Montgomery Avenue in Ardmore. The new location more than doubles the company’s former Suburban Square space and blends upscale design with a welcoming atmosphere.
The 1916 Company emerged from a 2023 merger between Govberg Jewelers, WatchBox, and two other premier retailers. The Ardmore store now showcases luxury brands like Rolex and Breitling while also catering to the booming market for authenticated, pre-owned watches — a movement Govberg helped pioneer through WatchBox.
While the name may be new, the commitment to craftsmanship and community remains rooted in Montgomery County. CEO John Shmerler calls the new space an investment in “neighborhood retail,” designed to make celebrating life’s biggest moments easier — and more meaningful.
